As individuals we may want to do a lot but the impact would be much more when we unite as people who are bound by common interests. It was the core idea that Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) supported, when it sponsored the idea of combining Indian Police with the famed Metropolitan Police of London for facilitating positive change through communication and debate. And now, finally progress is being made towards that direction following a recent Roundtable held in Delhi and to be followed up in other places in India.

Today when countries are becoming more and more inter-dependent on each other, there is a need to unite forces to create a safety net that expands beyond a nation’s own borders. A net that can fight common crimes that assail all countries. A method that allows little or no scope for miscreants to take refuge in other countries where they could hope to escape their crime. The fact remains that any problem can solved when the right people come together. With the Scotland Yard and Metropolitan Police working to create a safer London, India is one of the first few countries to join in this initiative drive through sharing of experience and twinning appropriate ideas and efforts.

Now, with business support like that displayed by TCS, that day would not be too far when a police officer investigating a case in Jalandhar would be able to contact Metropolitan Police to nab a rogue and vice-versa. With only mutual co-operation can international crime be brought under control. There should be no delay to combine forces and minds that work together against a common defaulter.

The WSS Foundation in India under Dr. S. Purna, Chairman, is assisting the facilitation of the initiative with the ongoing coordination of Dr. Spedding who is an international Lawyer and international Consultant Advisor to the Met on this project.

When we come together is when we are truly ourselves and when we act collectively in that wonder we do transformative work for our community and our world. A crime free world seems like an impossible dream now but it is not. The wheels of change have started to turn and we have to come together to usher it in. To begin with, it is India and London, UK who are aiding each other and not long from now, it would include all states, countries and continents working hand-in-hand bringing forth speedier justice.

We have to create the right base, set the right conditions to eradicate ambiguity and create open communications that would not only create an atmosphere to fight crime but also to bring nations closer. Imagine a world that would be created when all come together on a common ground in a way that benefit all their people, to let go of the past and embrace the future, to reconcile differences and create a better world.

This was the bigger dream, a vision that can be fulfilled and should be too for the safety of present and future generations: all stakeholders, including industry, have a role to play as a matter of governance and CSR to achieve positive practical results through their engagement in this pioneering and vital work.
