He is one banker all banks world over loves to bank upon. A master in investment matters, Udayan Bose, the former chairman of Lazard India and Managing Director of Lazard UK, has a special love towards M&A (mergers and acquisitions) markets. He has invested his expertise in banking issues for over 30 years and has advised the Government of India on its privatisation programme and has guided several India corporates on their restructuring strategies.
For someone, who spent most of his formative years in Kolkata (then Calcutta), Udayan Bose graduated from Presidency College with a first class honours and a distinction in chemistry. He followed that up with a Fellowship at the Chartered Institute of Bankers, UK; Certificate in Corporate Finance from the Securities Institute, London and the Advanced Management Program at Harvard Business School, USA. One of the world's largest pre-eminent advisory investment banks, Lazard is present in 15 countries worldwide. None can ignore the contribution of Bose in expanding Lazard. |
| A former regional director with the Deutsche Bank South Asia, Bose founded Lazard India in 1985, in collaboration with the erstwhile Lazard Brothers & Co Limited. It's a 50:50 joint venture between Lazard LLC and Bose interests. In the 20 years of its existence in India, Lazard under the stewardship of Bose has emerged as one of the country's leading investment banks in the M&A, privatisation and restructuring practices. Based in London, Bose was till recently one of the Managing Directors of Lazard & Co Limited, London and a Managing Director of Lazard LLC, USA.
He also used to sit on the Board of Lazard Asia Limited, Singapore. However, for a person who travels across continents for his job, Bose never seems to get tired of exploring new places. The family of five, including his wife, one daughter and two sons unmistakably catches up every December at their Mumbai residence for a vacation together. A banker par excellence, Bose surely knows what to invest where, when and how! |
