There is a natural law that the ablest and the fittest survives and takes the cake. This is equally true in business too, but truer in case of Ratan Jindal, Chairman and Managing Director, Jindal Group. He has taken unto him the task of making Jindal Group a brand, after the tragic demise of his father O. P. Jindal.

After O. P. Jindal had passed away, the market analysts phrased the phenomenon as 'stripped to its core' when the Group was being restructured. A visionary businessman that O. P. Jindal was, he had formulated a model according to which each of his four sons would be entirely responsible for the share of the company under his control.

The Jindal Group, under Ratan deals primarily in the business of steel, which is classified into categories like pipes, carbon steel, stainless steel and rails and power. An ISO: 9002 & ISO: 14001 company, its assets are valued at over $147 million. The Company's products, under Ratan range from hot rolled, cold rolled coils to plates and slabs. Through many ups and downs, Ratan has ensured its position as the largest integrated manufacturer of quality stainless steel in the country. In fact, Jindal Stainless single-handedly caters to 40 per cent of the total stainless steel requirements of the country.

A visionary man who is always restless for higher achievements, Ratan learnt the basics of under the tutelage of his father. Although O. P. Jindal was the Chairman of the Jindal Group, he was more of a guiding force for the company. The day to day operations of Jindal Stainless were managed by Ratan Jindal. During this period of practical apprenticeship, he became quite adept at the tricks of the trade.

As of now, Ratan is in sole control of the stainless steel business. He has three companies under his fold, namely Jindal Stainless, Jindal Strips and Jindal Steel & Alloys. Ratan is also appreciative of his late father for his formulation of a hassle-free business model which allows him to operate in a zero-interference environment. The family still convenes to discuss business, but none of then ventures into the others' domains. Ratan has followed his father's instructions to the end by curbing the natural propensity to enter into the others' product segments.

Ratan has also been instrumental in restructuring the company on modern line of management. Business segments were prioritized according to their importance and the lesser ones were hived off. The restructuring brought back the dwindling number of investors, as their confusion subsided because of the company's new-found emphasis on a single item. This was an obvious masterstroke for which full credits goes to Ratan's business acumen. Today, Ratan goes about stealing a march over all his competitors, in the process elevating Jindal Stainless to an unprecedented height of credibility and fame.
