He believes that imagination gives a picture and a strong vision gives an impulse to own up that picture. Once he had a dream to rule the Indian corporate world, and today, Rahul Bajaj as the chairman of the Bajaj Auto Limited, is ruling the roost of the corporate scenario in the country. Bajaj stands taller than his six feet height, when it comes to transporting the entire Indian middle class on his two wheels. Not only is Bajaj the most sold scooter on the roads of India, it is also the most exported two-wheeler in the nation's history.

An Economics graduate from Delhi University and an MBA from Harvard Business School, Rahul Bajaj has been the CMD of Bajaj Auto Ltd since 1968 till he relinquished the post of managing director this year. Recognised as one of the most successful business leaders of India, Bajaj received the "Man of the Year" award from the National Institution of Quality Assurance and in the year 1985 he was selected as Business India's Businessman of the year. At 66, success has come slow and steady to him. From channel surfing to world cruising to being a voracious reader, Bajaj is also famous as a night-out man.

But he is up and about every morning to see that his Rs 3,455 crore company earns more than it spends. In 2004-05, it made 1.8 million vehicles with just 11,000 workers. Today, the Bajaj scooters are ubiquitous, visible in every nook and corner of India, and in many countries of the world. It has in many ways become the status symbol of the country's middle class. Its popularity could be gauged from the fact that in the late 1970s, there was a waiting list for 13 years before one could finally purchase a new Bajaj scooter.

Bajaj received Dalal Street Journal's Corporate Excellence Award for 1990 & 1995 (Rank I). In recognition of his contribution to the automotive industry, the Government of India appointed Bajaj as the Chairman of the Development Council for Automobiles and Allied Industries (1975-77). He was also the Chairman of Indian Airlines between 1986-89. In a due respect to this 'man of motors' the Government of India conferred the Padma Bhushan to Bajaj in 2001. In fact, he has done more than what the country could have expected from this true son of the soil-hamara Bajaj. This sexagenarian is in no mood of calling it a day and is still going great guns on Indian road. He is there to rule the two wheeler segment for days to come!
