Ability is what you're capable of doing. Motivation determines what you do. Attitude speaks how well you do it. And when it comes to combining all the three attributes into one, you have one person - Pawan Munjal, Managing Director, Hero Honda, who can vouch that entrepreneurs' success is just a matter of one's ability, motivation and attitude. A man known for his indomitable entrepreneurship, Munjal, over the years, has been the key figure who has taken Hero Honda from one success to another. Having mastered the art of riding high on Indian market through his uncanny instincts, its no wonder that Hero Honda Motors is India's largest two-wheeler company.

One of the brightest stories of Indian entrepreneurship, Munjal's leadership and sagacity has not only earned him great respect but has been responsible for kindling the spirit of entrepreneurship amongst his employees. Known as visionary and leader, Munjal learnt the nitty-gritty of automobile business quite quickly and has used his managerial skills to enable Hero Honda grow on a fast lane over the decades. Always eager to provide the cheapest form of transport for the poorest of the poor, Munjal has brought a revolution in the two-wheeler market through innovations, especially in fuel-efficient segment. A firm believer in fair competition, Munjal recently launched a major initiative to make a foray in scooter segment too. "We will launch our first product in 2006.

We will try to give a product that will be in the fast-growing segment. Our scooter will cater to niche demands that have been created by fast urbanisation. We expect that more and more women will be buying scooters for commuting within cities," he said during an interview recently. But things are not as rosy as it seems, especially when its competitor like Bajaj Auto is firing on all cylinders to dislodge it from the top. Honda of Japan, a stakeholder in the company and its technical collaborator, has launched its scooters and motorcycles in India. Suzuki has plans to roll out its motorcycles soon. But for Munjal, the man with a mission, there is more than just meeting the eyes.

A fighter, leader and successful entrepreneur, there is another side of Munjal. A lover of golf, who gets up early in the morning to play his shots, Munjal has been instrumental in giving a fillip to the game in India. A co-sponsor of Gadgil Masters and a sponsor of the 'hole-in-one' prize during the 1995 Classic Indian Open, the company under the stewardship of Munjal took on the Asian PGA event, popularly known as the Hero Honda Masters. Munjal has also been the motivating factor in sponsoring India's premier golfer, Jeev Milkha Singh. With his support, Jeev has excelled in European and Japanese PGA Tours and is the only Indian to break into the top 200 of world rankings. For a man who has an uncanny eye for talent, there is not an iota of doubt that Hero Honda, under his masterly command, is sure to bloom and prosper, in years to come.
