The agrarian saying that the farmer's eye is the best fertilizer, probably exemplifies the stupendous success of NFL's products and in turn, of its Chairman & Managing Director, P S Grewal. Highly popular through the length and breadth of the country, NFL today has become synonymous with high quality fertilizer products. And the man who has made it possible is none but Grewal who has worked unrelentingly to carve a niche for NFL. Known for his innovative ideas, Grewal is credited for bringing far-reaching changes within the NFL.

The leading public sector undertaking in fertilizer, the NFL, during Grewal's tenure, saw the installation of Nangal Urea Revamp Project, which has turned out to be one of the most successful projects. He was also instrumental in launching numerous research and developmental projects in fertilizers. It was Grewal's initiative which saw the launch of Neem-coated urea, that has become hugely popular amongst farmers. After taking over the reign of the company in 2001, Grewal took immediate steps to improve the productivity and profitability of the company. As a result of his hard work and intelligent leveraging of the resources, the NFL achieved a record sales turnover of Rs 3,654 crore with a pre-tax net profit of Rs 448.43 crore.

It produced 32.12 lakh tonnes of Urea during the financial year of 2002-2003. And the capacity utilization of its plants was as high as 100.6%. As a result of Grewal's consistent efforts, NFL was bestowed FAI Award for Best Overall Performance for Operating Nitrogenous Fertilizers Unit. In fact, NFL is the first company in fertilizer segment to have its total business covered under ISO-9001: 2000 Certification. A market leader in the fertilizer industry, it meets 16.9% of Urea demand in the country. And when it comes to R&D, the NFL unlike other PSUs, has gone an extra mile in collaborating with scientists of other organisations to give a fillip to its new products.

Grewal, the man guiding the NFL's destiny, knows that no growth in today's time could be possible unless there is a novelty to products. And as a logical conclusion to his belief, he has enlisted dedicated team of professionals in production, maintenance and project management. Known for its products like Kisan Urea, Kisan Khad, bio-fertilizers and a wide range of industrial products like Methanol, Nitric Acid, Sulfur, Liquid Oxygen and Liquid Nitrogen, NFL under Grewal, has grown with leaps and bounds. A known name in fertilizer industry, Grewal is also the Vice-Chairman of Fertilizer Association of India and Chairman of its Northern Region. When there are leaders like Grewal, nurturing the growth of NFL, the future certainly stands promising.
