The invariable mark of wisdom is to see the miraculous in the common. And it will not be an exaggeration to say PG Kamath, general manager, India operations, Lexmark International; India read the words of wisdom long back.
When he took over as general manager of the Indian operations of printing solutions major Lexmark in 2002, P G Kamath knew it was his keen insight of the channels industry that the US-based company was banking on. And he didn't prove them wrong. He was made responsible in setting up infrastructure, identifying channel partners and building the market for Lexmark's product offerings in India.

Kamath has over 18 years of experience in the IT industry and possesses a keen insight of the channels industry in India. Prior to joining Lexmark, he was vice-president (Marketing) at Ingram Micro, and was responsible for the growth of the company as well as making it one of the best wholesalers for technology products and brands in India. It goes to Kamath's credit for expanding Lexmark's business in India. A leading developer, manufacturer and supplier of printing solutions including laser and inkjet printers, multifunction products, associated supplies and services for offices and homes, the company has touched higher points of growth under him.

But when it entered India, players like Samsung, Epson, HP and Canon dominated the market. So it was a tough ask for the veteran. Or, was it? He had a simple motto: "The best marketed printer is not the best one." And with that, he took on the challenge of making Lexmark a leading brand in India. In the last two years under his direction, the company has seen the expansion of its operations in terms of a new office in Delhi, a dedicated team of professionals, as well as a streamlined distribution lineup.

Today, the company is a complete printing solutions provider with a seamless after-service setup as well. In his two years with Lexmark India, he has been responsible for making the company visible as a strong player in the industry today. Not surprisingly, in March 2005, he was appointed in the board of directors of Lexmark International (India). The meteoric rise of Kamath within the Lexmark speaks loud and clears of his hard work, dedication and perseverance. Not to speak the success story he has etched for the company.
