He knows success is more a function of consistent common sense than a result of genius. Unmatched as his contributions for the development of infrastructure are, Nikhil Gandhi also has a vision to make MiSEZ the next Singapore, a gateway of growth for the entire country attracting foreign investment. His career is an impressive success story insofar as his contribution to the growth of the Special Economic Zones (SEZ) is concerned. Enriched with his vast experience of working in different SEZs, Nikhil Gandhi, Chairman of Sea King Infrastructure and Director of MiSEZ, is now shaping up the Mumbai integrated Special Economic Zone.
He is planning to 'to introduce world-class operational standards, efficiency and corporate governance in MiSEZ'. As the chairman of Sea King Infrastructure, Gandhi has ensured the investment of Rs 4,500-crore in MiSEZ. In fact, Nikhil is the brain behind the whole project. A few years ago, Nikhil Gandhi wanted to build an SEZ in Positra in Gujarat, near his privately-owned Pipavav port. He also managed to sell the idea to the then commerce minister Arun Jaitley. But the bureaucratic red-tapism forced him move out of Positra to Mumbai. He used 10,000 hectares of land owned by Sea King Infrastructure to create the Maha Mumbai SEZ. The State-owned Cidco wanted to build a Navi Mumbai SEZ near the Jawaharlal Nehru Port. |
| And now a big project is coming up in the form of MiSEZ. It was Nikhil Gandhi-owned Sea King Infrastructure Ltd., which has successfully built and commercialized the Gujarat Pipavav Port. Modeled on a similar Chinese concept Positra Economic Zone (PSEZ) it promises to be a city that will not only house industry and trade but will have all necessary ingredients of a successful city. The current project investment on MiSEZ is $1.4 billion and it will be spread over 11.7 square miles (10 times the current largest size SEZ at Kandla). The big advantage of MiSEZ is its prime location.
Being adjacent to the main city of Mumbai, the SEZ should be able to leverage the advantage of the city's infrastructure and have an access to quality manpower. Once completed, the MiSEZ would indeed become an engine of growth and it could change the entire concept of development of infrastructure in the country. No doubt, a long-cherished dream of a corporate boss will come to a reality. And MiSEZ will, in fact, be the Gateway of Indian economy bringing about a revolutionary change in the realm of infrastructure in the country and the kudos would go to none other than the visionary and dynamic Nikhil Gandhi. |
