It is said that the wind is never for the sailor who does not know what port he is heading towards. But N N Khanna, Chairman and Managing Director, India Trade Promotion Organisation (ITPO) certainly understands the currents of the trade winds. For, he is among few individuals who have guided his destinies through his dedication and hard work. And he knows to which destination he is sailing. Khanna has steered the course of ITPO towards areas of newer opportunities which were never explored before. Khanna, an IAS officer of Punjab cadre, brings with him a rich portfolio of experience which spans four decades of distinguished service in the state government and government of India.

Prior to ITPO, Khanna was Secretary to Government of India in the department of Urban development. Known for his principled stand on various issues, especially during his assignment as the special secretary of the Ministry of commerce with responsibility of WTO Negotiation, Khanna has carved an image for himself, which still persists with him even after his retirement. Khanna made significant contribution during his earlier tenure as Secretary to the Government of India in the Ministries of steel, Youth Affairs and sports. With his new posting as CMD, ITPO, there are fresh challenges awaiting Khanna, which as his track record shows, he has been superceding all expectations.

Providing a wide spectrum of services to trade and industry and acting as a catalyst for promoting India's trade, the responsibility is not new to Khanna. During his earlier posting as regional advisor for trade promotion and trade policy with the UN Economic and Social for Asia and Pacific, he added new trajectory to its growth. The ITPO, a nodal agency of the Government of India, which approves holding of international trade fairs in India, is sure to receive an upward swing under Khanna. In fact, ITPO's extensive infrastructure, marketing as well as information facilities could very well prove to be boom in promoting import and export under Khanna's guidance.

In fact, ITPO under Khanna is already on the way to its expansion. The process of opening up new trade fair centres in Guwahati, Mumbai and Srinagar has already begun. It has already set up its regional offices at Chennai, Kolkata, Bangalore and Mumbai and has overseas offices at Frankfurt, Moscow, Tokyo, Frankfurt and Sao Paulo through which it's promoting its international business interest. And now with Khanna taking over the charge, one can be sure that he will give a new meaning to ITPO and help it become one of the most credible trade promoting organisations in the world.
