Prior to being elevated to the present position, Singh successfully led the company's India operations as regional director and also played a key role in establishing the company's presence overseas since, 80 per cent of Ranbaxy's business is international and only 20 per cent is domestic.

Malvinder and his family are the largest shareholders in Ranbaxy, Fortis Healthcare, Escorts Heart Institute & Research Centre and SRL Ranbaxy, which together constitute the largest health care group in India. He serves on the Boards of these companies and is Chairman of Religare Enterprises, India's leading integrated financial services provider. Prior to his current position at Ranbaxy Laboratories, he was President, Pharmaceuticals for the same company. In this position he had responsibility for the company's global operations.
