If you are looking for
something heavier and melodic at the same time—something
different from heavy metal, a different attitude, then
you certainly need a brush with, Kishan Lal Mehrotra,
Chairman and Managing Director, Manganese Ore (India)
Limited (MOIL). He is not a new name for those familiar
with metal business. A man, known for his versatility,
vision and energetic steps, Mehrotra has charted a new
graph for MOIL. Mehrotra, was instrumental in giving
a new direction to the MOIL. As a result, MOIL is one
of the leading manganese mining and processing public
sector companies in the country today. He believes making
people feel valued by openly recognizing their achievements
and empower them with as much as possible in their sphere
of responsibility.
According to him, it
is a must to understand every person in the Team in
order to develop commitment, providing ample opportunities
to transform everybody into winners. One needs to create
and maintain an environment in which individuals work
together in groups towards the accomplishment of common
objectives. Its sales turnover crossed Rs 175.27 crore
long back in 2003 registering a growth by 11 per cent.
MOIL under the leadership of Mehrotra is also credited
with producing 6000 tonnes of ferro manganese against
a target of 5000 tonnes and 930 tonnes of electrolytic
Manganese Dioxide against the target of 1000 tonnes.
It is also the largest employer in the manganese mining
industry having a total work force of 7500 employees
in the country. Popular with his workers and colleagues,
Mehrotra is known for introducing various schemes in
the MOIL so as to upgrade it technologically.

This has not only given a fillip to its production but
has also enhanced the efficiency of its various units.
Keeping it in tune with time, MOIL under Mehrotra and
his predecessors have also modified its products to
suit the market requirement. Also responsible for export
sales to make up the shortfall in domestic sales in
high-grade ore, MOIL has consistently ensured high quality
manganese in all grades so as to retain the market leadership.
One of the Miniratna
public sector undertakings, MOIL was set up long back
in 1896 and has expanded its operation to 10 major mines,
out of which six are located in Maharashtra and four
in Madhya Pradesh. And not surprising, under the able
guidance of Mehrotra, all the mines are doing exceedingly
well. Mehrotra's innovative ideas and his adaptability
to changing time has not only made MOIL one of the successful
business enterprise but has added several feathers to
its operation. Understandably, Mehrotra has added strength
to MOIL and provided it a solid foundation, on which
the company has been building its edifice.
