Jagatheesa Pandian
Title : Discovery of a Jackpot

Company Name : Gujarat State Petroleum Corporation
Designation : MD

He never takes the limits of his own vision for the limits of the world. For him even the sky is not the limit of success. He does the thing, he thinks he cannot do. Jagatheesa Pandian proved that, when the Gujarat State Petroleum Corporation (GSPC) found an estimated reserve of 20 trillion cubic feet (TCF) of natural gas in the Krishna-Godavari (KG) basin. One fine morning, he woke up and found himself famous. It was indeed a moment to celebrate for Pandian for the company he was heading achieved a milestone in the history of oil in India.

Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi even claimed that the amount was more than the total gas produced in India, which stands at 15 TCF, and nearly double the discovery of Reliance in a neighbouring block. The total value of the gas found by GSPC is expected to be "approximately Rs 2 lakh crore or USD 50 billion." The commercial production in GSPC will begin by 2007. He is indeed the powerhouse of the GSPC and is providing the much needed lubricant for economic growth.Indeed no one has gone so deep in India than Pandian in search of the liquid gold. Indeed, he turned out to be the 'saviour of the poor' (Deen Dayal) by providing oil for the poor.

Thanks to his experimental attitude, the GSPC would be enlisted in the stock exchange. The GSPC, which carried out the operations, has an 80 per cent stake in the project. The other two partners - Jubilant Enpro (India) and Geo-Global Resources (Canada) - have 10 percent stake each. No doubt the jackpot of Gujarat would make Gujarat "India's economic superpower" and would also change the entire energy scenario of India, more than doubling the total gas being produced.

Under his stewardship, GSPC has grown from operator ship of small fields in Gujarat into an expansive oil and gas exploration and production company across India within six years of its operation. GSPC has been credited for the construction of India's first and only Land Based Drilling Platform in the Hazira gas field in 1998. Having joined hands with multinationals and leading players in the petroleum sector, GSPC is leading the way into an era that is revolutionizing the hydrocarbon sector. And the man behind the giant leap is none other than Jagatheesa Pandian, the charismatic corporate boss.
