In an age where services, products and high-flying mechanization are considered the only indices of growth, there are few individuals and companies who believe that the real growth lies in a nation's agriculture. And unlike others, Henrique H Ubrig, President South Asia, Dupont India, is one of those individuals who believe that rural economy is the lifeline of masses and real indices of a nation's growth. "We believe the major driver for sustainable and long-term wealth creation in India's villages is through agriculture improvement. We need to address how we can bring relevant innovation to the rural economy and empower the local community to create value," said Ubrig during a interview recently.

Born in Brazil in 1949, Ubrig has received his masters in business administration from Ohio University in Athens, Ohio. A graduate from Fundacao Getulio Vargas, Sao Paulo, Brazil, Ubrig is in charge of major market for DuPont, the MNC major that puts science to work by creating sustainable solutions essential to a better, safer, healthier life for people everywhere. Operating in more than 70 countries, DuPont under Ubrig offers a wide range of innovative products and services for markets including agriculture, nutrition, electronics, communications, safety and protection, home and construction, transportation and apparel in India. In fact, Ubrig joined DuPont in 1979 as assistant comptroller and thereafter held a range of business positions from 1979 to 1989, including a two-year assignment in DuPont headquarters in Wilmington, Delaware.

In December 1989, Ubrig was transferred to Argentina and assumed the position of president and general manager, DuPont Argentina. In March 1992, he was moved to Wilmington, and assumed the position of global operations manager for the company's nylon industrial and specialties division. Ubrig returned to Brazil in April 1994 to become the vice president of the nylon division for South America. In June 1996, he was also given the position of president, DuPont South America.

In 2000, he was bestowed upon the responsibility of vice president, DuPont Brazil, thus adding another feather to his cap. In January 2004, Ubrig was transferred to India as president of DuPont, India/Pakistan. As any other expat CEOs posted in India, Ubrig is bullish about India's future. "India is growing and we are challenged to produce the best. We must have a vision to be the best," he had said in a seminar. Married to Rosana Paula Carla Miotti, Ubrig, who has two sons and one daughter believes that future belongs to those who can keep pace with time. And not leaving himself behind - whether in ideation, marketing or innovative product launch, Ubrig in India is all set to make rural economy a hub of activity and a region of prosperity.
