Gokhale, MD of Konkan Railway Corporation Ltd, has done precisely the same by connecting people through one of the most difficult terrain of the Western India. Dr. Ketan Gokhale, Managing Director of Konkan Railway Corporation Ltd. is an ex-officio Special Secretary to Government of India. A Civil Engineer with Masters Degree specializing in `Structural Engineering (Pre-Stressed Concrete), he holds a Doctorate in `Management Science'' from the University of Pune, India. He is also trained at British Rail Management School at Derby, UK.
As the Managing Director of Konkan Railway - spread over 760kms he is instrumental in debt restructuring and fiscal conditioning of the Corporation. He has played a pivotal role in development and installation of Anti Collision Device, which has been implemented in Konkan and North Frontier Railway region of Indian Railways. This unique device prevents collision between the trains at high speeds. Konkan Railway holds international patents for this device. These initiatives in introducing various safety projects, is responsible for safe travel of 30 million passengers per annum traveling over the challenging terrains of Konkan Railway annually.
Dr. Gokhale has worked his way through sheer determination and unstinted loyalty to his duties. It is for this admirable reason, among many, that he now sphereheads the prestigious national project of building a rail road connecting the remote areas in the unexplored Himalayan region in Jammu and Kashmir. This impressive project of Rs.80 billion would see the light of the day by 2008.
Furthermore, as a Professor of Railway Staff College, Dr. Gokhale has been instrumental in conducting Management courses in Commercial, Marketing and Organizational Behavior to the Senior Managers of Indian Railways. He is a recognized name in the management and business circles where he regularly delivers invitational lectures. He has published a number of articles and papers related to Rail Management in national and international fora. A man so diverse in actions that today, he has become an acronym of Konkan Railway.
