Energy is the very source of life, of development, growth and prosperity. Energy has built the nations and destroyed it, and it's energy that will decide a nation's future. And Debashish Majumdar, Managing Director, Indian Renewable Energy Development Agency Limited, IREDA is the man on mission to give India 'energy forever'. A man whose foresight is an extension of world's future needs, Majumdar has worked unrelentingly to give India a sustainable source of energy, especially when the traditional source of energy is fast depleting.
Majumdar known for his expertise in renewal energy and his skills of taking path-breaking initiatives has given a new direction to research and development in the field of India's renewal energy sources. Appreciated for its productivity, teamwork, and quality and partnership for sustainable development, IREDA under Majumdar has made significant contribution in harnessing the natural sources of energy. Today, India is at the forefront of harnessing renewable energy resources and has one of the biggest broad-based programme in Non-Conventional Energy.
IREDA, a public limited Government Company was established in 1987 to develop, promote and extend financial assistance for renewable energy and conservation projects. Apart for commercialising the use of renewal energy and upgrading the existing technology, IREDA has played a vital role in making the new source of energy popular in remote corners of the country. Constituting 3.5% of the renewal energy total grid capacity, IREDA's share accounts for 30% of the power generating capacity and has set medium term goal of electrifying 18000 villages with no power connections.
Majumdar has not remained contented with his achievements but has launched several prestigious projects to make Indian villages and urban domesticity self-sufficient in power needs. With a person like Majumdar leading the IREDA, it's all likely that India would increasingly move towards renewal source of energy in years to come. |
